What is Plastic Injection? How is it done?

plastic injection, It is a kind of manufacturing method. In this process, the plastic raw material is melted at high temperature and injected into a mold and manufacturing is carried out. Plastic injection production is widely used in industry. In other words, many apparatuses, from the smallest part to the largest part that people use in life today, are manufactured by plastic injection method.

Plastic injection started to be made for the first time with the invention of the machine in the 1900s, and advanced technology was obtained by integrating these machines into the computerized systems we use today. Injection machines generally consist of clamp, injection part and mold part.

Vise Section

The vise section is the part where the raw material is compressed under pressure. The vise is also the place where the male and female harmony in plastic is realized. The injection state of the plastic takes place in the relevant part of the machine. In other words, the plastic material in the form of granules is located in the chamber in the injection unit. Electric heaters provide high temperature to the raw material and the material is melted and sent to the mold in the vice. This pushing process continues until it fills the mold.

Holding Pressure

After filling the mold, the molten plastic material tries to come back from the entry point, and if this is possible, error, warping or deformation will occur in the material. In order to prevent this situation, the holding pressure is applied after the pressure. The duration of the holding pressure varies according to the nature of the raw material, the size and weight of the part.

Cooling Stage

After the raw material is filled and kept in the mold, the desired shape is given, and now the cooling stage is started. The cooling stage will mean that the plastic is molded and hardened. After the last step is applied, the product is taken out of the mold and made ready for use.

After any product produced with plastic injection comes out of the mold, final corrections are made. The trimming process is also called deburring. In order for a manufactured product to be error-free and trouble-free, it must work with a flawless system. Today, with the developing technology, the fact that this type of production has turned into computerized systems has reduced the margin of error in the product to almost non-existent.
